Opportunities for evangelism are all around us. Evangelism is more natural than many of us think. Jesus was serious when he sent his disciples — and us — out into the world to make disciples. The Octagon helps to remember the many different ways that we have contact with the non-Christians in our world and how to look for the”Person of Peace” that is open to our sharing the truth of the Gospel. We are to live a lifestyle of mission, evangelism, and service.
The eight sides of the Octagon represent:
• Presence Evangelism — modeling Jesus and his love wherever we are right now.
• Passing Relationships — opportunities we may have with the clerk at the store, the person on the plane, etc.
• Permanent Relationships — bringing the truth of Jesus to family and close friends.
• Proclamation — declaring the message of Jesus;”repent and believe.”
• Power — using the miraculous signs of God to draw people close to Him.
• Perception — observing and becoming increasingly aware of when the Spirit is leading you.
• Preparation — using your words and actions to prepare the”soil” for someone to believe the Gospel at a future time.
• Person of Peace — one who is prepared to hear the message of the kingdom and the King. This person is ready to receive what God will give you to say at that moment.
